Patella maltracking causes patellofemoral syndrome, so exercises for patellofemoral syndrome would be helpful for patella maltracking (for your internet searching leisure).

: No. The typical quadricep or hamstring toning exercises do not interfere with growth or growth plates. Poorly monitored use of weightlifting equipment to maximize lifts can cause subtile injury to growth plates.

Accepted Answer

There are many: There are many others. Lunges, ankle weight quad strengthening, squats, cutting exercises for better side to side agility to mention a few. If you have a knee injury, talk with a doctor familiar with rehabilitation to determine what is safe for you.

: Can it completely prevent the possibility of a meniscal tear? No. However, having strong supporting musculature around your knee is protective for any kind of me injury, so within reason, strengthening exercises of your legs are reasonable if you are prone to meniscal tears. Good luck.

can i use my exercise bike everyday to treat my moderate knee osteoarthritis? what about daily leg strengthening exercises? how much is too much?

Weight loss: Bicycling is a good form of exercise for those with knee oa.  It is also important to strengthen the quadriceps.  However, weight loss is the only way to slow progression of knee oa.  Weight loss also helps reduce pain.  Losing 1lb of total body weight translates to 4-5 lbs off the knees.

Light weights: Wouldn't be bad, but use light weights - only a couple of pounds on each ankle.  And use well controlled slow movements - don't jerk the weights up quickly as you'll potentially hurt your knees.

last year in july after having xrays of both knees that showed bone on bone,i had the first cortisone shot in my left knee and the third shot in my right knee.orthopedic surgeon  recommends both knees be replaced asap.since i have much unfinished work to do before risking the possibility of a longer than usual recovery.i am doing strengthening exercises and ride bicycle,just rode thirty miles.what else can i do

Severe knee arthrit : Strengthening the supporting muscles is very important along with getting down to your best weight possible. Certainly a BMI below 30 and maybe more like 25. When to exercise swimming, biking. Very low impact exercise. Glucosamine can be used but with severe arthritis it may be minimal. Gel injections can help some before replacement.

Change: Possibly related to early osteoarthritis.  Weight loss will slow progression of oa of knees and help with pain.  Would recommend switching to exercises that spare the knee such as bicycling, swimming etc till knee symptoms improve.

i have knee pain from obesity. so i start to exercising at the gym. but when i run or walk, i feel knee pain, so it's a dilemma. how to exercise?

Ride ex. bike: You can try an exercise bike, swimming or using the elliptical machine... Once you begin to lose weight(in conjunction w/dieting) you may be able to return to fast walking and possibly jogging.Its' always a good idea to seek the advice/ guidance of a certified trainer as well.See your pcp . Gl!

Yes: Excess weight puts stress on the joints/ it's very possible that losing weight would help your knee problem.
