i have a strange cold or numb feeling on the top of my right shin, running from below the knee to about halfway down the shin, along with intermittent knee pain. the leg is not cold to the touch, but it does feel odd. what could this be?

: Your symptom suggests a neuropathic origin or a nerve being pinched most likely at the knee level where there is likely inflammation or swelling. While arthritis is the most common reason seen in practice for such symptoms, other causes or mechanical damage, cartilage or ligaments, for example cannot be ruled out. Your doc remains your best resource in case your symptoms persist or worsen.

i am experiencing  knee pain. it specifically flares up after running for about a mile. the pain runs down the back of my upper leg, down into my calf?

Sciatica-Leg Pain: Hi,
Concerned about the pain running down the back of the leg into the calf after running.
This is usually a problem with the nerve exiting the low back called the Sciatic nerve. It runs down the leg and when pinched causes pain.
Stop running temporarily and get some relief before this gets worse.

Knee&amp;related pain: You MAY have a torn meniscus or other knee issue.  Please see your doctor so you do no further damage.  He/she may refer you for physical therapy or surgery.  Peace and good health.

i am experiencing  knee pain, lower leg pain and knee stiffness. the following also describes me: excessive running. what should i do?

Runs w knee/leg pain: May be tendonitis, IT band ( from hip to knee), patella mal-alignment,patellofemoral syndrome, shin splits / stress fracture. Would check  for patella alignment,meniscus,  flat feet, check shoes that they are not worn, consider kinesiotape on knees, shins, ice, rest. Follow up with  ortho/ podiatry as you have to take a break from running if stress /fracture or shin splits

Neuropathy: Could be from back or possibly nerve compressed by fibulae head....Common peroneal nerve.....

see a neurologist: Joint pain is usually not a feature of als. Neurological evaluation can help.

Could be many things: Depends on what kind of pain, where, symptoms, etc. You should of course see someone to examine your knee. Generally speaking there are many things that can go into knee pain with running, outside of an obvious injury things to consider are improper running form, starting too aggressively with a new program, poor shoes, an old injury that didn't heal, weak hips causing affecting the knees. Depends.

Running pain: You shouldn't generally have knee pain after running.   It may require some investigation, a more gradual approach, or new footwear.  Once you have the pain anti-inflammatories, tylenol (acetaminophen) and ice are helpful.

See your doctor: If rest, ice and elevation for a short period of time does not help, i would have it evaluated by a physician.
