are there any superficial (palpable) nerves in back, slightly to the outside of the leg below the knee?

Accepted Answer

Shouldn't be: Not under normal circumstances.  You shouldn't find any palpable nerves laterally below the level of the knee.  The common peroneal nerve sort of wraps around the knee but it is not palpable although it is "damageable" fairly easily by compressing it with the weight of a leg or other object.

is there any thing besides the shots in knees and fusing the nerves in my back.  the pain is unbearable and tramadol and shots aren't helping.

Pain options. : There are always options, which could be best discussed with a pain management specialist. You'd be prudent to avoid Narcotics as much as you can, though.

how long does it take for nerves to grow back from a bilateral release on knee? had one a yr and 5 months ago, my knee has been feeling better lately

Patience!: First the good news:  peripheral nerves are capable of growth and repair even after being severed.  However, the process is very slow and is often incomplete.  They grow at a rate of 1 mm a day, or about an inch a month or a foot per year.  There is nothing that will make the nerves grow faster.  Good luck!

had a bilateral release on my knee 3 yrs ago in march, how long does it take for the nerves to grow back,im starting to feel better lately,is that why?

Nerve injury: The peripheral nerves near the kneecap can sometimes be cut during surgery, which may be unavoidable.  This commonly leads to an area of numbness over the front of the knee.  That area usually shrinks with time, but may be permanently numb.  After 3 years, it is unlikely to change significantly.

could pinched nerves cause knee problems or swelling in the knees?

Accepted Answer

Pain, not swelling: A pinched nerve can (and often does) cause pain, along with tingling and numbness. However, pinched nerves should not cause swelling.  (there may be swelling in the area of the pinched nerve, but it would not be visible.  The knee would not swell from a pinched nerve alone.).

Pinched nerve: Pinched nerves are usually relatively brief.  It would be unusual to have a knee problem for that long.  This should be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon or primary doctor.

why do the nerves on my knee pain me when stretching the leg after folding the leg for some time?

Accepted Answer

Multiple reasons: Perhaps it's not just the nerves, but also the joints, ligaments and tendons in the knee that hurt after prolonged stretching, standing, sitting, strenuous exercise.
These could be due to strain, sprain, nerve inflammation or impingement.
Any symptoms that get worse or accompanied by leg weakness or shrinkage of muscles, have yourself examined by your dr.

Benign fasiculation: These are most likely benign fasiculations  and are not dangerous. Your evaluation will help clarify if there are any other causes.

i have pinched nerves in hips could it cause knee pain?

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: Anatomically there are no nerves in the hips that would cause pain in the knee.  Most people will call pain in the buttock area their hip.  This pain can be generated from nerve irritation in the lower back.  Pain can also travel down the outside of the leg from a condition called ITB syndrome.  Trigger points can also refer pain.  Discuss with your Doc.

why does my left knee bend back past what would seem normal. how did this happen? injury or something to do with the brain, nerves

Accepted Answer

Hyperextension: If you don't remember any trauma that would have caused this, it may be just normal for your knees to hyperextend somewhat.  That being said, a hyperextended knee will leave you more at risk for other injuries if you do have trauma, such as acl damage.  There is no nervous/cerebral issue that would cause knee hyperextension.
