i have a mole on my back that changed from pink to a freckle kind of colour. is this ok or should i get it checked out?

Get it checked.: Any time you notice a new or changing mole, it's a good idea to have it looked at by a doctor. Melanoma (the worst-case-scenario) is  a potentially deadly skin cancer.

Hemangioma: Most bright red "moles" are not moles at all, but small blood vessel tumors called hemangiomas. With rare exceptions, they are harmless. In many people they become more common with aging. Usually there is no particular cause. If one or more are in places that causse cosmetic problems, usually they can be removed or otherwise treated by a dermatologist.

Moles: Go to a dermatologist and have them removed and they will send them for pathology to find out what they are.

Primary care is OK: You may end up at a dermatologist or plastic surgeon if your primary care doctor agrees that it is suspicious, but sometimes it can take some time to get into these specialists in some areas of the country. By all means, show it to your primary care doctor as soon as possible and he or she can help you get to a specialist, if needed. Good luck!

Probably nothing: Moles or nevi begin in the form of a small circular or nodular lesion, not linear.  In order to define that lesion which converts or transforms to melanoma, one uses the Beslow classification of thickness of the lesion.  Anything less than 0.75 mm and without a variegated pattern of  pigmentation should be followed.  Should the lesion enlarge, show signs of peripheral inflammation then do bx.

Shave biopsy: Shave biopsy will give better result than excisionsl bx.

Scar: Sunblock spf 30 with zinc oxide is the most important. Some lasers and peels may also be effective to diminish scars.
