Stress and kidney DZ: it causes vasoconstriction of the renal circulation and parts of the kidney die.  Well demonstrated in mice but not in man.

No: Emotional stress is mainly related to the conscious minds negative thoughts. Kidneys function independently. My practice is in surgery and self-healing meditation to guide and help patients with severe emotional stress, cancers and chronic illnesses as a secondary support management of complementary medicine. if a person only had one kidney, could excessive alcohol put stress on or affect the functioning of that one kidney overall?

: Alcohol will stress more than the kidney. Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. It will destroy your brain cells, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, including breast, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level of alcohol intake. Quit while you are ahead.

Scan Dye Can: Scan dyes used for contrast can cause kidney damage called stress induced nephropathy 
it is more common in patients who already suffer from some kidney dysfunction like elevated creatinine level
but most of time kidney function returns to normal within couple of weeks but in some patients with kidney disease it can be permanent and can lead to end stage kidney failure, and rarely death.

No: You need a 'kidney scan' to better visualisation of kidneys.

my creatinine levels are high.  the dr. says my kidneys are stressed.  what can i do to help my kidneys?

Drink lots of water: In meantime, stop taking otc pain medications like Ibuprofen & naproxen. Also review your medications w/your doctor & pharmacist looking for kidney irritants. Then go see your doctor again for repeat testing. If creatinine level remains high (chronic kidney disease), it's time for a more thorough investigation including ultrasound of kidneys looking for stones & damage.

pain in my lower back was only on the right side. started after being sick last week. drank over 3l of water yesterday to try and help. pain is less intense but has not gone away. this morning i felt it on the right and left  side. kidneys or stress?

Back pain: Since both sides of the back are involved, I favor a musculoskeletal cause of your discomfort and would treat with warm, moist applications 20 minutes 4 times a day. You could also apply liniment like bengay. If you can take them, anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen or naproxen should provide relief. Good fluid intake is still a good idea when taking these medications.

Marked anxiety: can be held as tension in neck and back muscle which can lead to spasm and pain.

ADJUST DOSE: Will have to adjust the dose as levels are higher. Monitor sodium.

Kidney injury: Fortunately, a kidney needs to be completely obstructed for a prolonged time (ie. 1 month) before any permanent damage occurs. However, frequent stone passage may increase risks of infection and scar tissue formation within the ureter.
