Yes: Virtually every antibiotic has the potential to cause a type of colitis called c. Difficile colitis. Antibiotics kill bacteria.  Even as normal people we have thousands of different kinds of bacteria in our colons. When you take antibiotics, it kills some, which allows other types to thrive. When clostridium difficile thrives, it causes colitis. This can be life-threatening and require surgery.

what would cause pain and swelling on my ribs on the left side? i have been to the hospital for it and they said it was colitis. i think there wrong.

Get rechecked: Rib pain can be muscular, bony or on the surface if associated with a rash. You can always get a second opinion back at the hospital if the pain is worsening. Good luck

Cannot: Clostridium difficile colitis occurs when you alter the normal colonic flora with antibiotics and it grows out and produces toxin.  Whether this happens depends on whether you were previously colonized with this organism, the strain in your colon and other factors.  No specific %s are available.  Don't use antibiotics unless absolutely necessary.

is the antibiotic cephalexin 500mg 4x/ day safe for someone who suffers from ulcerative colitis or crohns. would it cause flare ups? it was given due to a deep cut. the last thing we want is to mess something related to the colitis?

: People with such inflammatory bowel diseases are at increased risk for.c diff.infections which also are more serious for them. I would ask the MD who prescribed the antibiotic if the patient truly needs it. I have been more circumspect in prescribing antibiotics for patients with IBD or who are immunosuppressed.

i just started getting really bad acne on my cheeks out of nowhere 2 months ago and i'm 22. keflex and minocycline don't work. swelling has started?

Dermatologist ASAP: Some acne is resistant to antibiotics. Other treatments are available, but require specialist care. If you're not under care of a dermatologist, ask for referral to one right away. Prompt treatment may be needed to prevent permanent scarring. With modern treatment, nobody should ever have to deal with that lifelong problem. Good luck!

Cellulitis: If he course was for 10 days probably further treatment not necessary. The knots are likely lymph nodes. I would anticipate these to go away with time.

Depends: Varies between 7-10 days, assuming that you are on the correct antibioticm dose of antibiotic, metabolsm and/or other underlying medical conditions.

Redness: Keep soaking your finger in warm water 10min twice a day. As long as it slowly gets better, a little redness is fine.
