Strep carrier: If a child is a carrier of strep then he or she has to be treated with a full course of penicillin to eliminate the strep, because he can infect other children he is in contact with and the adults as well.

Confusing question: If your concern is about strep throat, the issue is unlikely to bother a fetus.The germ does not enter the blood & travel to the baby, so baby does not have any ill effects. If your question is about group b strep, that germ is common in the female genital tract.It can contaminate baby during birth or infect the fetal waters prior to delivery. In either case the germ can infect baby & cause death.

No: Although the treatment of strep throat has traditionally been twice daily, studies have shown that essentially twice the amount of amoxicillin once daily is just as effective in treating the infection

Strep throat : he can take high dose amoxil (amoxicillin) for his weight for 10 days. Around 750mg twice a day. That fose may be a little low but not necessarily less effective.  Hope that helps

Strep resistance!: There is increasing resistance to azithromycin by strep. The latest recommendations by the Infectious Disease Society of America is max 500 mg a day for 5 days.  I don't know where that 6th dose comes from!  Ask the doc.  Resistance rates in Europe may be different than in the U. S. i have clyndamycin 150mg i was rx'd and was never usedd.i am sure nephew has strep. can i use that? and what dosage? no allergies...about 70kilos

Not recommended: The standard for strep is the penicillin class, then 1st generation cephalosporins, not the Cipro (ciprofloxacin) class.

Yes: It takes some time for a kid to come back from any infection.Was the strep verified by test? All strep A is killed by amoxicillin. There is always the possibility a co-infection with mono or other virus can amplify the symptoms and delay response.

No, that dose is: fine. There is a dosing range depending on the child's weight, which is 40-80 mg/kg/day. He is 14.5 kg, so this dose is 55mg/kg/day, which is perfectly fine.
