Oral contraceptive: Kariva is an oral contraceptive pill that contains a relatively low steady dose in that the estrogen component is 20 ug. The progestin is desogestrel and is a steady dose. Therefore the pill is considered monophasic. Of note, Kariva adds an additional 5 days of estrogen - at the end of the pack- after a 2 day  hiatus- making it an "extended" dosing pill pack.

Confusing question: Are you asking can you get pregnant while taking the hormone free week of a birth control pill? Birth control pills are very effective when taken correctly. If you have been taking them correctly all month then failure rates are very low. You are still protected during the hormone free week.

i'm on the 3rd month of kariva into the second week of the back and i have been spotting for 5 days and today i've been having cramps all day.

Break thru bleeding: Having spotting and now cramping in the 3rd pack of birth control pills sounds like break through bleeding.  This can just occur out of the blue, but is more likely to occur it a bcp was taken late or missed.  Cramping often means a period is coming.  Check with your doc if this doesn't resolve on it's own.

i'm on kariva pill, i miss pills kinda often but never more than  three a month. on my 3rd pack now first time no period, test it's negative?

May be okay: You might need to wait a few more days to see if you'll get your cycle.  Typically, even missing a few pills on the pack, you'll get a cycle at the end of the month.  If there are other issues going on, problems with your thyroid, or pituitary, then the pill cycle might not provoke a menstrual cycle.  Kariva is a great pill, i would just keep taking as recommended.

Possibly: Pregnancy is always a possibility. Purchase and perform a home pregnancy test.  These usuallly turn positive when you're about a week late.  If it's negative, repeat in a week and call your doctor.

Yes: It is normal to occasionally bleed on bcp's, especially the low dose ones (20 mcg ethinyl esteadiol). However, it usually settles down after 3-4 months. If not, you may need to change pills.

is it normal to skip a period when on kariva birth control?

Rarely.: Are you taking Kariva regularly every day? If you are, and missed your period, continue taking the pill daily but let your doctor know. Kariva has estrogen at the end of the cycle so periods are lighter or spot. Taken perfectly, ocp like Kariva have 1% failure rate. If you have missed 2 periods, or have been irregularly taking the pills, you could be pregnant and need to see your primary or ob.

Could be from the pi: Pill, you can prove it by going off the pill and using backup like condoms, etc  to see if your sex drive returns.

Add condoms, etc..: When using birth control pills, if a pill is taken late or is missed completely, there is a slight increase in the ability to become pregnant. A small percentage of women do become pregnant even while on birth control pills. So, a women should add another form of contraception (such as condoms) while finishing the current pack of birth control pills.

No not normal: Please call your gyn , you will probably need a different bc pill your gyn needs to evaluate you.
