Not from Hyzaar (losartan and hydrocholorthiazide): Hyzaar (losartan and hydrocholorthiazide) is a combination of a diuretic/water pill and an angiotensin receptor blocker/arb which is used to lower blood pressure. The constant leg swelling may mean you are retaining fluid and need a higher dose of diuretic. The arb component has a 1-3% chance of causing angioedema, episodes of swelling involving various parts of the body (unusual to only affect legs) for 24-72 hr not constantly.

Not sure if: your symptoms are side effects of your new medication.  It usually takes no more than 1 or 2 days for any drug to clear from your body, but it is a gradual process.  Other potential problematic scenariors:  Drug metabolites can hang around for longer, tissue drug levels can sometimes take longer than blood levels, any damage that it might have caused can take longer to heal. Consult your doctor.

Next move: Unusual for losartan to cause gi problems. See Ur doc for full discussion. Frequently a lower dose of a combo of meds can still be effective in treating HBP, while decreasing the annoying side effects. Edema well known side effects of Norvasc (amlodipine). Good luck.

Options: The next step will be to check your blood pressure whenever possible and get a baseline blood pressure. Lifestyle modifications are critical and they include a low salt diet, no alcohol, at least 7 h of sound sleep/24 h, weight loss if overweight. If this proves indeed to be hypertension there are many other options as far as anti hypertensives and they can be tailored to your other comorbidities.

: Losartan is a blood pressure medication in the ARB class. It is not generally used to treat edema, but it also doesn’t cause edema the way amlodipine can. HCTZ is a diuretic and is sometimes used to treat edema, but good catch about the sulfa allergy!  There are other diuretics that do not have a sulfa molecule and might be useful along with the losartan.

Yes for muscle: Muscle cramps, leg and back pain may be experienced with cozaar (losartan).  Dizziness, congestion and respiratory problems like sinusitis may further be experienced.  Skin sensitivity is rare as is "burning pain".
