tooth still hurting from filling three weeks later? i had my first filling done over three weeks ago and still have pain when i eat or drink something hot or cold. will this go away soon?

Depending : Depending on the depth of the filling it is understandable to have varying degrees of post operative sensitivity.  The rule of thumb is that you should be able to feel that it is getting a little bit better each week, not worse or the same.  If it is not improving some intervention may be necessary.  Regardless, it can't hurt to have your dentist check it out--may be something as simple as a bite adjustment.

why does my tooth feel sensitive little over 2 yrs since i got a filling? its intermediate. sometimes eating, sometimes not eating or drinking?

: See my previous answer. Your tooth may be cracked, the filling may be cracked, you may have recurrent decay, you may have gingival recession. The tooth needs to be physically examined to diagnose the issue.

i got 3 fillings 2 weeks ago and my teeth have been sensitive to cold since then.  i feel pain for a few minutes after drinking a cold drink. normal??

Fillings: Depending on the depth of filling, restorative material, bite , recession of gums etc  teeth can be sensitive post treatment. Lingering sensitivity is not an encouraging sign, however if the time of linger is diminishing thats's more encouraging, if getting worse or concerned, contact your dentist

See your dentist: The most common reason for pain right after large filling is that the filling is too high. See your dentist for post-op evaluation and minor adjustment.

can i drink alcohol immediately after getting a tooth filling?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes.  If you got a plastic filling you probably can eat right away.  If it is a silver amalgam filling you should wait 4 hours or so for it to set before eating, but drinking is ok anytime.  Have fun!

i got 2 root canals and fillings, but there is still pain in my tooth when i eat hot food and drink cold drinks. why is that?

Nerve transmission: If you had rct completed, then all the nerve tissues were removed and the canals filled. Those teeth cannot produce sensitivity to cold or hot.  New fillings, teeth with cavities, or even healthy teeth can produced sensitivity to cold and hot.  See you dentist to determine which teeth are causing the sensitivity and whether it's normal or treatment is needed.

Not : Overly dangerous.  But most likely exposed nerve due to the lost filling.  Call your dentist ASAP to get filling replaced before more issues occur

Bruise: It is not uncommon after an extraction to have  the tissue more vulnerable to minor trauma.  Any chewing in the area could possibly traumatize it.  So  unless food was forced under the gum the area should heal well.   Leave it alone but if it lasts start warm salt water rinses in the area.

i had 5 fillings done and the first part of a root canal. now all my top teeth are very sensitive. i've used sensiidyne. but no relief. what's wring?

Need more info: How long ago were fillings and partial root canal done?  Why wasn't root canal completed.  Which teeth were treated.  Which teeth are sensitive?  How long ago was the infection treated (root canal)?  How extensive was the other surgery (fillings)
