Yes: As with a cast, skin can peel if it has been wrapped continuously. Normally, the skin sheds a little at a time. With a continuous cover, that doesn't happen. When the cover is removed (cast, wrap), the skin makes up for lost time. Next time, remove the wrap regularly and wash with a wash cloth.

Yes: Soft tissue injuries can take a long time to heal. Ankle sprains can result in torn ligaments. When ligaments heal the scar tissue is not as strong as the tissues before tearing and may be longer allowing the joint to gothrough a greater range of motion.

Unstable Ankle.: Ice, elevation and wrapping is the appropriate way to initiate the treatment of a sprained ankle, provided the "rest" element in not left out. (RICE). This works wonders for less serious ankle sprains, but will fall short for the more serious ones. In these situations, the damaged tissues need to be immobilized with some element of compression. A cam walker usually suffices. Time to seek expert.

Cold,Cold Heart...: One thing you can do before you rush off to have it checked is stop putting ice on it. Ice is good for the immediate injury, but like all reducers of inflammation' it can have chilling effect on the healing rate. Try applying heat and see if the increased blood flow doesn't help. Ligaments have a poor blood supply, so too much cold application can slow the blood flow and slow healing.

Not : Not all fractures show up on a standard x-ray, especially if they're hairline fractures.  If you're starting to see bruising, you might have a little fracture.  It takes 14 days for bone callus to be visible on an x-ray (bone callus is this white, fuzzy looking stuff that surrounds fractures as one of the stages of fracture healing), so you might want to have your ankle re-x-rayed after 2 weeks to see if there is bone callus.

If you still have problems, an MRI would not only be able to show an occult fracture, but would also tell if you tore one or more ligaments.

Ankle sprain: Depending on the severity of the ankle sprain, it can take from 4 to 8 weeks to heal. There are 3° of injury. One is a stretch of the ligaments, 2nd° is a partial tear of the ligaments. 3 degree is a total tear of the ligaments . 3rd degree tears take a good 8 weeks to heal.
