Best to see MD: These jerky movements are hard to evaluate not seeing you and seeing them. They could be myoclonus or other things and cns, spine and peripheral nerves and muscles have to be evaluated. Better see your doctor for that. Good luck.

my kid age 2 yrs sometime get scared in sleep.cried.body stiff.jerks too.but he is in sleep.whats the best way to relax him?

Take your son & a : Video of the stiffening/jerking movements to his pediatrician, who will tell you if he needs an overnight eeg to rule out nocturnal seizures. If it's a night terror, you can put your child in his own bed, drowsy but awake, at a consistent time after reading, soothing & brushing his teeth. If he's having night terrors, he'll have no recollection of them & you'll get a full night's sleep.

Night jerkiness: Some body jerks in transition from awake to asleep is normal.  Some others have jetliners of the legs and/or arms throughout the night (restless leg syndrome).  If this issue is causing problems, go see your regular doctor for further evaluation.

Completely normal: Just as people fall asleep, it is very common to have what are known as myoclonic jerks. They are nothing serious.

: Your primary care doc would be best to start with as having access to your current medical records and being able to relate your symptoms to any of your existing conditions, if any. Hypnic jerks are suggested by your description and if a specialist, such as a neurologist is needed, your doc will be able to coordinate locally.

Periodic Limb Move..: You may have a condition called periodic limb movement disorder--random movements occuring during sleep. The exact cause is uncertain but possibly "neuronal hyperexcitability" in some area of the brain. Since cause is not known yet, treatment is suppressive..Treating the symptoms to allow better sleep etc...Consult doc if it is affecting your sleep quality or your partner's..

Myoclonus: I can definitely relate to this. When trying to sleep after studying for a test in medical school, it looked like epilepsy. This is because of a brain that wan't quite  shut off yet. Rather than medicinal therapy, try to wind down as much as you can before falling asleep. No computers, TV, internet..etc.

how can we improve sleep for my partner? (besides meds, which he's tried extensively?) i jerk around in my sleep. it wakes him several times a night.

Light sleeper: Have him wake up day early at same time. Hs need to exercise 20 min in the morning daily. Have him avoid coffee tea tv internet and electronic stuff 3 hours before sleep. Try to lay down after he goes to sleep. If U are obese get ur self checked for sleep apnea and also if u could get a sleep study it will rule out restless legs caused by iron deficiency . If all else fails sleep in 2 rooms

It's not addiction: in the usual sense, and it may not be an issue at all.  Many people have high levels of sexual tension, and this may be normal for them.  Other people can only achieve release through masturbation, rather than physical contact with other human beings, and this may well be a problem. If it is interfering with your life, making you feel guilty or otherwise bothering you, see a   therapist about it.

Yes this is normal: You are referring to what is common known as a "sleep twitch."  these are absolutely normal although they may be aggravated by anxiety, stress or excess caffeine intake.  Sleep twitches usually decrease in frequency as we age.  If they are of concern, ensuring proper sleep hygiene may decrease the number of twitches you experience.
