Jaw pain on chewing: There are many problems that can cause jaw pain upon chewing.  A single bad tooth can be the problem, or gum disease may be causing tooth loosening, but the most common and difficult to diagnose cause is the habit of clenching or grinding ones' teeth.  This can chronically cause the ligaments of the teeth to get stretched and cause the jaw to ache. A bite guard should be custom fabricated  to help.

Tmj: Usually those are symptomf on people thsth brux or clench teeth while sleeping. Tka some Ibuprofen and warm moist compresses on the affecred area will help to reduce the soreness.

TMJ problems?: It sounds like possibly a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issue.  The TMJ is the jaw hinge, just in front of the ear.  Problems like you describe can be caused by grinding the teeth, usually at night when the person is unaware.  You can read more about it here:
