1st ivf cycle had 5/16 mature eggs. only 2 blastocysts, both had chromo abnorm. i'm 41.  any way to improve % of mature eggs / increase # of blasts?

IVF with PGS: Although the result may be sub-optimal, knowing how you responded to the medications and how the follicles grew will help your doctor to improve the chance of success with the next cycle and may increase the number of embryos you will have.  Doing the preimplantation genetic screening of the embryos will improve your chance of success with the transfer.

i'm having spotting after a failed ivf cycle, any chance that it was late implantation or am i just delusional?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: Its more likely that your hormonal levels are altered from the cycle and may cause this.

On the other hand, other possibilities include:

1. Undetected polyps
2. Rebound ovulation (earlier then usual)
3. Cervical trauma from the embryo transfer.

is a 6 cell embryo on day 3 an option to make it to a viable blastocyst for ivf transfer on day 5? i know ideally it should be an 8 cell on day 3.

Would be concerned a: bout how it got to be 6 celled. The fertilized egg should split into two and each of the cells then consequently double so should be 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc. 6 is not part of that so was there some sort of problem during 4-to-8 split such that half the slcells didn't split?

i had a very early beta at 8dp5dt after ivf transferring 1 blastocyst that was just starting to hatch. my beta was 16 - i know this is low - any hope?

Have to wait: It is too early to tell if the pregnancy is viable. You should follow you doctor's plan which likely involves measuring serial levels to make sure they rising properly until you are ready for an ultrasound.

NO: It is a good sign that you are not at an unusually high risk of failure. But this is a tricky and relatively low success procedure. Worth trying, however, if you want another baby!!

Yes: The medications your fertility specialist gave you will help improve your chances of successful pregnancy.  Try not to add any other factors that might muddy the waters and impede your doctor's process in helping you.

IVF implantation: After transfer of the embryo implantation occurs about 6-10 days later. There will always be some degree of human variation and the exact timing of implantation can not be predicted ahead of time. There is a physiologic window for implantation to occur by the nature of our physiology. Exactly how long that window is in any one individual during any one cycle is not known.

Implantation: Happens when embryos are between 6-7 days old. So if you have a d3 transfer, implantation is 3-4 days later; if you have a d5, implant is 1-2 days later. Always.

No: The window of implantation appears to close at about noon on day 6 post-retrieval. While there may be occasional pregnancies, the success rate drops significantly. I am not sure why you or your doc would want to transfer on day 7, but it is almost certainly a poor idea.

Negative preg. test: Embryos that implant ('take' in the lining of the uterus) make detectable levels of HCG hormone, so embryos that implant and then fail later cause a 'biochemical pregnancy' or miscarriage. Embryo transfer with negative blood HCG means embryos didn't implant. Possible causes: genetic or metabolic problems in the embryos, polyps or other problems with uterine lining, or issues with embryo transfer.
