Not necessarily: However, there are medical conditions that can increase your chance of developing pneumonia, so recurrent pneumonia should be evaluated.  If the pneumonia always occurs in the same part of the lung, it may be due to an anatomical lesion, which requires further investigation.

Myth: Your statement is false. You can take pnemonia vaccine to prevent further infections. There are two types of pnemonia vaccines available in the market. Ask your doctor about them. Second, get  annual flu vaccine.

i had a very bad case of septic pneumonia 6 mos ago.  it was the first time i've ever had it. will i be more likely to get pneumonia again?

Pneumonia: Perhaps.  Do not smoke, or use drugs. Eat a healthy diet.  Avoid second hand smoke and any chemical lung irritants. Exercise in clean air areas (not in traffic areas). If you have asthma, see an allergist.

i've heard that there is something called a "subtle pneumonia".could you please explain what this is and the way it works?does it have a medical name?

Pneumonia: There are various descriptions of pneumonia, but I'm not familiar with the term "subtle pneumonia". The mildest form of pneumonia is a patchy lung involvement and is called bronchopneumonia. A more extensive pattern is lobar pneumonia. Bronchitis may be difficult to distinguish from bronchpneumonia as symptoms are similar and X-Ray findings are minimal at times.

A while: I presume you are feeling better, the fever should be improved, though cough is milder. If that is the case then you are getting better. Many people have residual cough and fatigue for several weeks after. In my experience most people are not back to normal for about 6 weeks. But it is pretty variable. If you are not any better, go back to see your doctor.

NO/See MD: Viral pneumonia can be a very serious infection.  Sometimes it will resolve on its own.  Bacterial pneumonia almost always requires antibiotic treatment.  You do not describe your symptoms or state why you think you have pneumonia.  Get checked out by your md.

Symptoms: Your symptoms are suggesting rather a delayed recovery following your pneumonia. Other conditions cannot be ruled out. Best to address your symptoms will be your treating physician who would be able to sort it out.

Phlegm: The blood tinged mucus may persist for days. As your shortness of breath, fever, and painful respiration improve, the blood in the mucus will soon get better too.  At times, there could be a nasal/rhinitis component owing to the bloody phlegm.  Best wishes.  Follow up if not totally better after treatment.

Pneumonia: Pneumonia is inflammation of the lung and can be from viruses, bacteria, chemicals and other toxic substances, fungus or anything else your lung sees as an irritant. This is never normal. How long you treat and what you treat with depends on the cause. The fever clearing depends on how successful the treatment and severity of the pneumonia. You must go back to your MD until you are well. Go ASAP.

Without : Without examining you and possibly getting an x-ray, it's difficult to tell what is going on.  However, any cough that lasts more than 2-3 weeks should be evaluated by a doctor.  There are many problems that could be going on - common things being walking pneumonia, bronchitis, allergies or gastroesophageal reflux but less common and more serious causes could be tuberculosis or congestive heart failure.  Evaluating your other pertinent symptoms and listening to your lungs can help deliniate the cause of your cough and hopefully get you the treatment you need to feel better.  Give your doctor a call.
