Local inflammation: Probably just a little plebitis or inflammation of the vein. It is due to the catheter or possibly caused by something you were given thru the iv. Try placing a warm compress to the area for about 20 minutes several times daily. If the symptoms persist or worsen you may need to see your doctor for an antibiotic.

Esophagus: The esophagus is the tube that connects the throat to the stomach.  When you eat, food passes down the esophagus to get into the stomach. Coordinated smooth muscle contractions in the esophagus wall help propel the food down the esophagus.  In the elderly, these muscles may become weak and discoordinated, making it more difficult for the food to get down.  There are other reasons, see your MD.

Valium: Don't know why you are taking the valium. If you are taking it for an anxiety - treating with a medication like an SSRI or buspar (buspirone) may help to prevent those symptoms. Always work directly with your physician as you are tapering. Congratulations - you can do this !!

See your dentist: May have dental infection, gum inflammation, cracked tooth, imbalance if there are fillings.  Sometimes the temporomandibular joint (tmj jaw joint) can get inflamed or out of balance, especially if clenching.  See your dentist.

Unlikely that: you sustained any intra cranial injury if you had no loss of consciousness or any nausea/vomiting in the week following your injury.  Sounds like main injury is outside the skull.  If symptoms are improving, you are probably going to be ok.  See your doctor if symptoms persist.

Might take a while: If the feeling was deep and close to your nerve pulp and pain last a few seconds it might take a couple month for healing. However, if the pain is spontaneous, last long period of time (20 min.) or wakes you up you might need endodontic evaluation.
