i have gotten small recurring hives on old scars. oldest scar is from 2016, others from 2018. both are on my low back. they are itchy enough i have scratched the skin open without realizing it. they recur every few weeks. any idea what they could be?

: It is rare but infection can't be ruled out so you should be examined by a doctor. In the meantime, you can apply 4% lidocaine cream or ointment, sold at drug store OTC, for itching and pain relief.

my 4 yr old daughter has raised bumps  that are going in a thick line down her arm. it almost looks like a scar from a distance. they are not itchy?

Hard to know: Can't know for certain without seeing it, but it might be lichen striatus. If so, it is not anything to worry about. Lichen striatus is benign, and goes away on its own.

i have a tick bite 6 months old, it still goes through periods of intense itchiness. it developed scar tissue under my skin. cause for concern?

See below: If you we're treated appropriately for a suspected tick- borne illness, then the tick illness should be gone, but, you may have developed an are of hypersensitivity at the bite and the more you scratch, the worse it may become.  The skin may be becoming lichenified or simply scarred as you you described.  See you doctor for an evaluation as "rashes" are very difficult to diagnose without viewing.

Yes but at age 34?:  Was the chickenpox or was it shingles. At age 34 which was eight years ago I wonder if it really was chickenpox. The old scar Can itch. Let's see what the dermatologist says

i have irregular skin pigmentation on my forearms, some darker tan and some lighter tan ( but not white) in a random pattern. old scars appear lighter also, almost white. maybe teniaversicolor? it is not itchy, flaky, scaly, red, irritated, raised

Dermatologist: A dermatologist should examine you for diagnosis. Tinea versicolor or vitiligo are possibilities.

is it normal for a scar to be itchy after 7 years?

No: To provide a better answer to your question, more information is needed.  Do you just what an answer without treatment? If not, what was the cause of your wound? Did you have stitches?  Did you develop excessive scar formation? Have you spoken to your doctor about using steroid creams? Have you already tried non-sedating anti-histamines (such as loratidine) to see if it suppresses the itch?

Scar: As long as there is not increasing redness pain or pus it is likely just the healing process.

Keloid: Keloids and hypertrophic scars can develop at sites of surgery , usually if there is delayed healing after the surgery. Those scars can be treated with steroidal injections , silicon patches , laser or surgery --- seek consultation with a dermatologist.

i had a minor surgery a month ago. it has healed but the scar is still itchy and one time there is little pain. is it normal?

Accepted Answer

Yes: scar can be itchy for a while. You can try to use some oils ( like coco butter/oil) products to massage it, may soften it and help with pain.
