Tramadol: Tramadol is a rather unique analgesic drug that is indicated for moderate to moderately severe pain, headache and neck pain included. Tramadol is not technically classified as an opioid analgesic. Instead, it is classified as a centrally acting synthetic analgesic compound and therefore is not a scheduled narcotic drug.

Possible: Although not common, tramadol has been associated with tinnitus which is ringing the ear. The incidence is less than 1% per report but there is no report whether tinnitus is irreversible. You can give it a try by stopping tramadol, the symptoms should subside in a week. If symptom persists, it might indicate other cause.

: Most medications have side effects that disappear when you stop taking them. Wait another few days to see if problems go away, if not, see your prescriber. In the meantime go to pharmacy and get OTC meds. for constipation.

Tramadol: Not at all sure why you would be taking tramadol for an ear infection. A simple decongestant and antiinflammatory like ibuprofen, should suffice for pain. Also, Clindamycin is pretty strong for initial treatment of an ear infection.

TMJ-TMD: Very common symptom is earache or pressure in the ear. Temporo-Mandibular Disorder is the second most frequent cause of orofacial pain after dental pain. The common symptom are: headache, jaw pain, neck pain, eye pain, earache and toothache. Proper diagnosis is the key for the successful treatment. Rec.: orofacial pain specialist for evaluation and treatment.

Tramadol: Max dose for Tramadol is 400 mg a day. You will not be able to take that daily dose immediately because your body won't be able to easily adapt to the side effects. The normal starting dose is 25 mg 3-4 times per day followed by increasing to 50 mg 3-4 times a day for a daily max of 200 mg. call you doctor and talk to them. If you are having that much pain, a follow up exam is probably warranted.

i was given a z-pack and tramadol for an ear infection and severe sore throat. the tramadol has not had any effect on minimizing pain.what can i do?

Ibuprofen: Try a 800 mg dose of ibuprofen, this is 4 of the 200 mg pills.  Take it with a little food, say yogurt.  Your ear will feel better within an hour. I hope you feel better soon!

Headache concerns: Headaches can be a concerning symptom and can have many causes.  Some are deserving of emergent treatment.  Warning signs are chronic headaches that suddenly change in quality or intensity, multiple headaches a week, new onset headaches that affect one's ability to function, associated vomiting, associated dizziness/double vision/neck ache/fever/weakness, or the need to take daily pain medication.
