Osteomyelitis : Chronic osteomyelitis requires proper surgical debridement by vascular surgeon or podiatrist and requires prolonged courses of antibiotics directed specifically against pathogens isolated from bone cultures.

i have been taking iv infusion for osteomyelitis in my foot. 6 weeks no spleen. white blood count between 9 and 10 each week. how long does it takes until you never have pain? do you always have it?

: Osteomyelitis can be a chronic illness, and may require a different antibiotic regimen or eventual surgery.  Obtain a second opinion from NC University or Duke departments of orthopedics for guidance.

a member of my family has osteomyelitis of the middle toe!  if using the same shower what is the possibility of it being contagious to another member of the family ?

See below: osteomyelitis is an infection of bone -- in and itself it is not contagious, but the bacteria causing the infection can be passed from one person to another - I think that you are probably at low risk, but if it is concerning - use another shower or bath, and or clean the area thoroughly before using the shower

Plan : Unfortunately it happens. Pain often related to weather changes or a lot of walking. To help with this you can use Motrin or Tylenol OTC.

Yes, but: The only way to truly diagnose a bone infection is with a bone biopsy, where a small piece of bone is taken out for analysis. This is a simple office procedure usually, using a specialized bone biopsy needle. Bone infections are serious, especially if you are diabetic or have circulation problems or neuropathy.  I do think it's prudent to get an MRI when a bone infection is suspected, however.

i have an ingrown toenail and the swelling is spreading down my toe to my foot. could this be a sign of bone infection? i have a doctors appointment tomorrow?

Maybe/not: This may be a superficial cellulitis (deep skin infection) that has not reached the bone. Your evaluation should help sort out this issue.

It's possible: If the IV antibiotic was not capable of eradicating the entire infection and/or if you picked up a new infection while you were recuperating from the other, it is possible to develop a bone infection that could potentially cause sepsis which could lead to death.  This is true for all patients but especially for those who are immunocompromised with diseases like diabetes, kidney disease or cancers.
