Contact: Scabies can be transmitted from person to person through direct contact, or through shared bedding, towels, and clothing of an infested person. Body lice are transmitted in a similar way but are very uncommon except in the homeless population. Unlike scabies which burrow under the skin causing an intense itching and inflammatory rash, lice live on the skin and in the clothes of the infested person.

Bumps and itch: Typically red very itchy bumps, and specifically for scabies burrow like rash that is itchy and most commonly in areas of skin folds.

Itching: Scabies shows up as tiny bites but the "bugs" are too small to see.  The bites can be anywhere on the body, including the back of the hand (not so much the palm) and the penis. With lice, you can see the tiny white bugs. They don't tend to produce visible bites. They are in the hair - scalp or pubic.

what is an effective way to treat your vehicle for scabies/head lice?

General cleaning: With lice, only areas where the head has touched are at risk. Would wipe the area down and vacuum it. 
With scabies it is spread to the environment with direct skin contact. It is unlikely to be an issue in your car. Would recommend general cleaning to the areas as well with wipe down and vacuum. Extreme cleaning in either case is not necessary or indicated.

Permethrin: Permethrin is the most effective treatment for scabies. Applied from the neck down, and left on for up to 12 hours, then removed. Ivermectin is an oral medication that can be taken once to treat scabies. Lindane is effective but may cause neurotoxicity and so is used after other remedies have failed.

Not always: Some sarcoptes scabiei (mite causing scabies) became resistant to nix (permethrin) and requires lindane treatment.

does derbac m help or get rid of scabies? or does any other lice lotion help?

Accepted Answer

Not usually: Derbac is malathion; an organophosphorous insecticide used in resistant cases of head lice (over age six years) not usually used in scabies where resistance is rare. Malathion is flammable and made with a base of rubbing alcohol so use on raw skin (as in scabies) would cause stinging and irritation. Scabies is  treated with prescription Elimite (permethrin) Permethrin 5% or--less effective oral ivermectin.
