the basic problem with osgood schlatter's is that the child is rapidly getting taller and the musculo-skeletal system is a little behind in keeping up. Non weight-bearing exercise like swimming is not going to be detrimental.

Varies: Some should never use a brace and some may need a long soft compression brace. The difference is determined by the findings on exam and the duration of symptoms. Talk it over with your doc. Using a brace without the need can produce muscle wasting in the treated leg.

OSD: OSD typically causes nothing much more than pain with activity and pain with kneeling on knees. You can always pre-treat your exercise sessions with an NSAID (like ibuprofen or naproxen), and ice the areas afterwards for relief. In rare instances, the condition could get bad enough to warrant orthopedic surgery, but that isn't the usual course. OSD doesn't affect growth at all.

Not really: When u swim u kick and put force across the knee and = irritate the tib tubercle.

Rest is the best, and significant vacation from the cause, football, buckets, soccer et al.

Ice after activity, and there are some bands that stretch over the patellar tendon that may help some, but more 4 jumpers knee.

Stop growing = gone. Lump stays, pain goes.

Yes: You may just have tenderness over the area between your knee cap and your shin depending on how early or severe it is. Sometimes an x-ray film can help in diagnosing Osgood-Schlatter's disease but most of the time a physician experienced in diagnosis of this condition can make the diagnosis based on history and a focused physical exam.

Knee pad: Unfortunately, there is no specific brace for osgood-schlatter's disease.  The pain is worsened with direct contact to the swollen front, top of the shin bone.  Hence, padding this area is your best bet for reducing pain.  Quad stretching and ice after activities reduces the pain from the tendon tightness, which is not addressed by bracing.  Ibuprofen reduces the pain and swelling.
