No.: For most people, it doesn't really matter. For pregnant women, it's sometimes recommended to sleep on the left side. But really, whatever is most comfortable is fine.

25 y/f ive been having such bad pain in my left arm for a day, comes and goes sometimes sharp and dull when i flex wrist, not subsiding with meds. no other discomfort. could it be from sleeping on left side all night? or heart?

WRIST SPLINT: Temporarily, get and wear wrist splint.  If from your nocturnal positioning, should depart over next 2-3 days, and splint will control symptoms.  If persists, contact physician, and pin down further.

Chest wall pain: May be the pain in her heart is chest wall pain due to certain position at bed. Any risk factors for heart disease? My advice is to see a physician for a better history and physical.

Depends how you lie: Try lying on a bed that has the head part elevated using books. Elevate about 6-8inches. If pain persists see a doctor or medical provider

No: Sleeping on your left side may cause you to be more aware of your heart beating but wouldn't cause heart pain or injury. As an aside, one study showed sleeping on your left side is beneficial for brain metabolic activity during sleep.

Anxious? Mindfulness: Our heart is much closer to the left chest wall and comes even closer if your turn on your left side. So if your heart is beating faster, you are likely to feel it. Find out why your heart is beating fast. Are you under stress/anxiety?  Learn to relax yourself to calm down your mind and you can do this by taking deep breaths and focusing your mind on your breath for few minutes(mindfulness).

Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it.

Cardiac issue: With those symptoms it may not just be positioning at sleep, although it's possible you are pInching some nerve when you lay in that position. I suggest you get a good physical exam at your GP, if you get chest pain at rest perhaps also a trip to the cardiologist's office
