If you have such a condition and have been exposed, or are seriously ill, notify your physician.

This may not be: related. Or, the red cheeks could be from fever accompanying the hand, foot and mouth disease. "Slapped cheeks" are more typical with an illness called 5th Disease, caused by a different virus. In either of these cases, there is no need to treat; it will go away on its own. Cortisone cream: You can use cool compresses or otc cortisone cream. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) may work better than Claritin or Allegra for this type of itch. Which antihistamine you pick can matter. Children are typically less sedated than adults (by sedating antihistamines). If this is an allergic rash and not a virus, your pediatrician might prescribe oral steroids, if the itching doesn't settle down or the rash gets worse.

my 5 weeks old baby has rash that turn to reds dry spots on his face, neck and back of his head. i am suspecting is eczema. can you advise me on which  ointment or cream i can use to clear his symptoms. thank you?

Patience: The baby acne is a common event that reflects hormones transferred during the pregnancy. While the baby is floating in moisture, the skin is will not respond, but within weeks of birth they break out for many weeks before the hormone levels begin to drop ; the acne disappears. Keeping the skin clean ; avoiding irritating soaps helps. Occasional use of a 1/2% hc once daily can calm some lesions.

Likely not ringworm: Skin rashes are common in infants & a single patch of rash can be a lot of things.From drool rash to ringworm to allergic reaction, etc. If it improves with hydrocortizone it is probably not ringworm. It doesn't sound worrisome at this point so you can bring it up with your pcp at the next scheduled visit.

Probably eczema: Your baby is likely to be having eczema as it recurs often and is not scaly The eczema may present as rash of any shape or size and anywhere on the body .Unlikely to be ringworm at this age .as baby"s contact is limited .Watch for any change in rash or it persists ,if so consult your doctor .
