Scar: tissue may or may not cause complications depending on the extent and location.  For example, scar tissue next to small bowel(adhesion) could result in bowel obstruction.  Scar tissue in other locations may never cause a problem.

i coughed really hard, felt a pop top abdomen by breast followed by extreme burning, pain, swelling. could this be torn scar tissue, is it dangerous?

Painful cough: If the pain is intense and extreme like you mentioned you should seek immediately care at the Emergency Room for more appropriate diagnostic test..

i have a hard lump in the lower right abdomen 2 months after laparoscopic hernia surgery with mesh.it's about 1,5 inches above where the hernia was, i sometimes have an uncomfortable feeling in the area esp when sitting.is it scar tissue or dangerous?

: The "lump" in the lower right abdomen after hernia surgery is probably related to suture (stitches) placement to strengthen the abdominal wall and prevent hernia recurrence.  See your surgeon who did the laparoscopic surgery to be certain.

is scar tissue from a gallbladder removal via laparoscopy dangerous at all? should i leave it like this?

Adhesions,: This scar tissue to which you refer, called "adhesions", will always occur after surgery - part of the post-operative healing process.  At times, they can cause obstruction of the intestines which may require hospitalization or even more surgical management, but there's nothing we can do preemptively to not make that happen.  Thankfully this is not the norm.

i had a d&c done for mym/c (12wks). continued to bleed and us showed a big blab of clot and possibly retained tissue. i have to have another d&c done tomorrow. how dangerous is it and how high are my chances to develop a scar tissue?

Exceedingly Rare: Even with a second D&amp;C, the risk of getting  uterine scarring is extremely low.

is a d&c dangerous? i have to get a polyp removed & i have pcos but i want kids in the future. will the d&c cause scar tissue or problems later on?

Not usually: A D &amp; C or a hysteroscopy and D &amp; C are often performed to remove an Endometrial Polyp.  There are risks as in any surgery.  Scarring of the uterine lining is one of them, but does not usually occur.  A polyp can also interfere with conception, is an abnormal growth, and should be removed.  Usually a D &amp; C will not cause later problems, but should always be reported.

Yes: Scars are only 80 percent as strong as natural tissue.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Some scar tissue particularly keloid may be associated with pain. This is not completely understood but it clearly associated with inflammation because steroid injections will produce improvements in as little as 3 days. In other situations, scar tissue will entrap nerves as improvement may require surgical release.

Excision: Scar tissue is rarely removed from sites of organ damage but rather from cutaneous areas where the scar is visible and occasionally painful.  At this time it may be widely excised but to prevent recurrence a steroid can be injected into the would like Kenalog (triamcinolone) which produces a strong anti inflammatory response.
