i am se asian.issues in past suspected discoid lupus, referal to dermatology with all the work up testing blood test only found thalassemia trait.the past few mths feel itchy all over and have acne on face in my mid 30's now itchy in ears ,help!

Sure: You have to remember there is a lot of  competition for labs doing tests. If one lab can do a test cheaper than another, you have every right to use it. Some of the best labs are run by the doctors originally from ucla and their tests aren't cheap[.  But they are reliable and that is what you n eed. Remember the tests are not going to be done frequently.

Yes: Prednisone is a very potent antiinflammatory and stopping it could cause the underlying lupus to flare.

Accepted Answer

Like most things: It depends on the degree.  Mild bruising no biggie.  Moderate bruising common on prednisone.  Severe bruising would bring in possibility of low platelets from disease or drug and would require further evaluation.

No need: Your AST is barely elevated and given your health state, I would not worry about the AST level. Let your doctor decide if and when to retest.

High Complex questn: Your diagnoses of dyes autonomia could cause your symptom, but  having lupus means you may also be on medications that alter your immune system- this means your symptoms could be due an infection. Talk to you doctor to discuss these and other possibilities, depending on the specifics of your condition.

dr.s says i have pos ana but cant find reason why. my mother has lupus & pos ana. could my ana result simply be inherited by her (w/out disease)?

5% false negatives!: Five percent of the population has false negative anas, anas without a disease. Lupus is very mildly herditable, and it is much more likely that you would not have/get it. I would not worry, unless sx develope and more definivite tests for lupus show up.  I would get checked for systemic lupus erythematosus again, one year from now.

can chronic gastritis (not from hpylori) be from my lupus? egd multiple times shows gastritis but no known reason... i wish i could drink coffee again

Chronic gastritis: Lupus is a possibility if no other cause found. It's an autoimmune disorder and there are causes of autoimmune gastritis causing acid producing cells to due resulting in gastric cell lining thinning and atrophy.  A biopsy during egd may be helpful to determine the cause of gastritis.
