is it safe to get botox at a med spa? can i safely get botox at my local mall med spa, or do i really need to go to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon?

Botox : Botox is not "idiot proof" and i've seen plenty of complications.  These can be difficult to improve.

As a rule, i think you'll find that the Botox you get at the mall is really no cheaper than the Botox you get form an experienced provider (oculoplastic surgeon, dermatologist, etc).  Check www.Asoprs.Org for an experienced injector near you and i think you'll be happily surprised.

i've read from you that it is safe to get botox while receiving remicade. my question is that i thought botox was "live", so isn't there a risk of getting the disease, same as with live vaccines?

No risk, no worry: Apparently you have misunderstood something you read. Botox® is botulinum toxin, the chemical that causes paralysis in the rare food poisoning called botulism. It's a chemical, not alive in any sense. Immunosuppressive drugs like infliximab (Remicade®) have no effect on side effects or toxicity of Botox.

had 15 units botox injected in my brow area on friday. is it safe to get a flu shot now or should i wait awhile after getting the botox?

i had a reaction to botox. is it safe to get it again? my ps put just a few units in, and for several months i had horrible migraines and flu-like symptoms. also felt very fatigued. unfortunately, my job depends heavily on my looks and i really need it do

Unfortunately : Unfortunately there is not enough information to answer this question...Type of botox, sites and amounts of injection, and more specific information about your reactions.  An allergic reaction will not last for months so something else may be occurring.  I have not had any instances of flu like symptoms, or for that matter, headaches in over 13 years of performing injections.  Of course it is possible to have an allergic to any medication.  I might recommend sensitivity testing by an allergist.

is it safe for anyone to get botox?  i have supra ventricular tachycardia and i take a beta blocker.  i was wondering if its okay?

Depends on why botox: It would depend on why you would be taking botox injections.  For most indications, I do not see a risk or problem.  Best is to discuss your entire health history with the provider doing the injections to make a determination if there is anything in your history that would contraindicate botox injection.  Dr R

insomnia causing migraines to act up i got botox injections yesterday, is it safe to combine ambien (zolpidem) xanex and klonopin to try and get good night sleep?

Bad idea: Mixing these medications increase sedation and drowsiness. Combination of these 3 drugs increases risk of CNS (central nervous system) depression, possible breathing crisis and death. See sleep disorders specialist (neurologist) for evaluation, diagnosis and proper treatment. Be safe and call your doctor.

i want to get off synthroid. my tsh on therapy is 2.58. before therapy it was 5.03. is it safe to discontinue the medicine?

No: Do not discontinue or change the dose without consulting your doctor. Your TSH before indicates thyroid deficiency.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

is it safe to take higher doses of synthroid (thyroxine) to get the tsh level up then to start reducing the levels to normalize it ?

Synthroid (thyroxine) : Higher doses of synthroid (thyroxine) should lower your tsh, not raise it.  You should never change a dose of prescription medication without working out a plan with the doctor or health care provider who prescribed it to you and can monitor the results.  Make an appointment with your doctor to discuss a plan that you both agree on.

is it safe to take sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim and synthroid? the urgent care doctor put me on the sulfamethoxazole, but i didn't get to ask if there was any issues with the synthroid.

is it okay to get botox if i'm 18 years old?

Yes: Yes, if you have frown lines, wrinkles on your forehead, or crow's feet around your eyes, Botox is an excellent option for reducing or preventing such lines. Age is not really a factor in my opinion. However, fda has approved Botox for injection in people 18-65 and only for frown line areas. This doesn't mean that it not safe or that it won't work in people outside that age group.
