is it okay to see an aura due to eye strain?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Auras are usually flashing lights or lightning patterns seen either alone or as a precursor to a migraine.  If alone, they are often called ocular migraines, and tend to resolve within an hour.  Migraines can be triggered by may different stressors, so straining your eyes could do it.  If you experience new auras, or visul symptoms that do not disappear, please see your eye doctor.

is it possible for eye strain to cause auras similar to a migraine? or could i be experiencing silent migraines?

Ocular migraine: You may or may not be experiencing symptoms of an ocular migraine. Do you have nausea? Photophobia?
Any change in visual acuity deserves an immediate full history and physical by an MD. Sometimes women develop catamenial migraines and they can be associated with other triggers as well. Stay calm and see MD you will be just fine.

i suffer with migraine aura, i can get them everyday or sometimes i can go without them for months. i see them sometimes in the right or left eye.
should i worry about them?

Problematic: Do not waste time with worry, but rather be proactive, and prevent, as visual auras can compromise your vision, especially while driving, and be dangerous.  Neurologists can provide a number of OTC and prescription items to break up pattern.

neuro and eye doctors: had 2-day migraine, then flashes of light not like usual aura. how do you tell if aura or retina detachment? see which doctor?

Cover your bases: If i were you i would go to a doctor that specializes in neuro-ophthalmology. If your in the new york/ new jersey area i recommend dr. Alison yashar.

had oct and dilated eye exam for what i thought was a floater. all goodnow i think its a negative afterimage. i see it as a dark spot with eye open and light spot with eyes closed. then it fades away. history of migraines with auras. thoughts please?

: You don't mention how long ago you had this exam.  The OCT scan was a careful examination of the retina.  It's common to have blurry vision and light sensitivity for some hours after a dilated eye examination. If your symptoms have lasted much longer, notify your ophthalmologist who will advise you.

i had very bad conjunctivitis in september 2019, i was put on steroid eye drops and later on restasis ophthalmic emulsion. i am having blurred vision in one eye and also see aura when i look at light for almost 2 years. did i loose vision permanently?

: There is note enough in this question to make an informed opinion or diagnosis, I suggest you get a full exam from a Ophthalmologist to address these questions.

No: Stars and flashing lights not related to trauma or rubbing the eyes could be a problem either within the retina or the brain.  Thus, should have an eye exam to rule out a retinal issue, especially with the combinations of flashing lights, new floaters, and a shade/curtain over your vision.

my eyes feel weird. like i feel like i can't see right. it started then i started having anxiety is this related? i was playing s video game and then next thing you know my eyes feel heavy and wierd. wasn't straining my eyes cause the tv is huge

See your PCP and get: a physical exam and have your eye doctor check for refractive error or if you need glasses vs. dry eyes from staring too long. They could measure your eyes for baseline ophthalmometer reading to make sure you aren't having something caused by an thyroid or other issue. Your extraocular muscles need to be checked too.Take a break, and refrain form playing video games for now.

Sort of: Opticians are the techs who sell you eyeglasses and contact lenses.  They also help to fit these to your eyes.  You need to see an ophthalmologist who is a physician specializing in the care of the eyes.  With the changes you describe, see an eye doctor soon and get the care that you deserve.
