Why not?: Best way to stabilize orthodontic results are retainers.  There are many different designs.  Second best is wire bonded to the tongue side of your teeth.  Discuss choices w your orthodontic specialist.

Wearing Retainers: Good  day;
Specialists in orthodontics offer a fixed splint that is placed on the back surfaces of the upper and lower front teeth. If u don't fiddle with these devices the anterior teeth will remain PERFECT. If a potion of the tooth movement included the back teeth, retainers are necessary or u risk the shifting post orthodontics.

Tooth shifting: The retainers you wear at night should keep your teeth in place. Excessive movement of the teeth every twelve hours can result in bone loss. Please have your orthodontist evaluate the retainers for a correct fit.

No: Newton postulated that 2 objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. However appliances can be fabricated to do both tasks simultaneously.

Night guard  : Good question.  Mouth guards are typically just worn for sports so that should not present a problem,  but if you are talking about a night guard for grinding, then the night guard should be able to act as a retainer also.  Talk to  your dentist about this

Retainers: There are alternatives, such as clear trays that snap over your teeth or wires bonded to the tongue side of your teeth.  Every retainer has different  advantages and disadvantages.  If you have been seeing qualified Orthodontic Specialist ask him/her to discuss the alternatives with you.  The one thing I can tell you is that retainers are not worn exactly as directed, teeth will shift.

Yes, every night: You should brush your teeth at least three times a day or after every meal, and use proxy brush and floss prior to cleaning in the evening.

ive had braces for 3 years without extraction and it dissolved my jaw line soo much. can my jaws regrow if i dont wear retainers after removeing them? will my teeth ever go back to its orginal position?

: Braces don't "dissolve" jaw lines. Not wearing retainers will allow teeth to relapse, but will not reshape jaws. Teeth will shift, but not exactly back to your pretreatment malocclusion. Discuss your concerns with the Dentist or Orthodontist that is treating you before braces are removed. If still concerned, seek a second opinion from a qualified Orthodontic Specialist.

the sides of my tongue have begun feeling some minor "prickly burning" sensations. i am unsure what caused this. i constantly brush my teeth and floss so i am not sure if it's an oral hygiene issue. i do wear retainers at night. any clues to cause?

Your are right this is unusual, and the first thing we ask is what have you changed or what happened recently. Q. have you had your teeth and your retainer cleaned in the last six months.  If not do go and get checked now.  You do not want something untoward developing.
