A member asked:

The sides of my tongue have begun feeling some minor "prickly burning" sensations. i am unsure what caused this. i constantly brush my teeth and floss so i am not sure if it's an oral hygiene issue. i do wear retainers at night. any clues to cause?

Let's get checked Your are right this is unusual, and the first thing we ask is what have you changed or what happened recently. Q. have you had your teeth and your retainer cleaned in the last six months. If not do go and get checked now. You do not want something untoward developing.

Have you changed toothpaste recently? If so, may be an allergic response to one of the ingredients. Do you brush your retainers daily? If not, may be a build-up of tarter on the retainers. Do you put your retainers into Denture Cleaner daily? If not, may be from bacteria impregnating the lattice structure of the retainer material. Have you had a dental examination in the last 6 months? Go now.
