A member asked:

I wear retainers at night after trays. is it normal for the bottom front row teeth to have 70 percent less contact after not wearing for 12 hours?

Tooth shifting: The retainers you wear at night should keep your teeth in place. Excessive movement of the teeth every twelve hours can result in bone loss. Please have your orthodontist evaluate the retainers for a correct fit.

Unfortunately: Trays are not as effective as braces. They often leave teeth in better, but not optimal, position. Also note that GP's are not generally as skilled in resolving malocclusions as Specialists. These factors can result in post-treatment instability. Talk to your treating Dentist or (hopefully) Orthodontic Specialist. You may need to wear retainers 24/7 for a period of time.
