Sinusitis: You are describing sinusitis. First line treatment is decongestants (eg, pseudoephedrine) and anti-inflammatories if it's painful (Ibuprofen). If there are any allergies or seasonal components, then antihistamines are added (eg, cetirizine). Chronic sinusitis may also benefit from nasal inhaled steroids. Only if fever, sharp pain, or increase in tenderness over sinuses are antibiotics helpful.

i have sinuses, a lot of times i have post nasal drip. it causes phlegm or mucus in my throat. can this cause light and occasional wheezing?

: Yes, post-nasal drip is a common cause of bronchospasm and bronchospasm can cause wheezing and/or coughing. The post-nasal drip needs to be treated in order to prevent this bronchospasm. It can be treated with saline and/or steroid nasal sprays. See your doctor for this treatment. If this treatment is ineffective, an ENT evaluation may be needed for alternative treatments. It: Could still be viral symptoms, warm fluids, antihistamines and Acetaminophens may help. Revaluation is indicated if symptoms persist or Dyspnea or dizziness develops

Reason: Phlegm is the thick, sticky mucus that drips down the back of your throat when you have a cold. Although drinking milk may make phlegm thicker and more irritating to your throat than it would normally be, milk doesn't cause your body to make more phlegm. In fact, frozen dairy products can soothe a sore throat and provide calories when you otherwise may not eat.

Sinus problem: The most likely cause of your phlegm is where sinus content drips into your throat because when you lay down, it is easier for your sinus and nose content to drop down the back of your throat than out of your nose. This can be from allergy or infection and you describe frequent so likely allergic. The use of a nasal antihistamine or steroid would help. Check with your doctor.

Hard Phlegm: The most important factor is hydration. Take plenty of clear water and use a humidifier next to you, you can also take decongestant but avoid cough suppressants Another type of medication that is helpful is an expectorant such as Guaifenesin that loosen phlegm. This medication is available in over-the-counter products. Also what may feel like phlegm may be localized swelling.

i had the flue for 13 days felt better than 2 days after have phlegm in throat does it have to do with the flue i was sneezing before also is it normal to have phlegm after having the flue n how long wil it last?

: What was originally a viral upper respiratory tract infection could have developed into a bacterial infection after 7-10 days. A sinus infection would then cause ongoing nasal or postnasal drainage of discolored mucus. A bronchitis would cause coughing up of discolored phelgm. If symptoms persist a course of an appropriate antibiotic may be needed.

Viral: This is a viral upper respiratory tract infection which has travelled to the trachea or bronchial tubes. Since over a week has transpired and you have a heavy,productive cough it no longer is a simple viral infection but now it seems bacterial and deserving of a course of antibiotics. I recommend that your physician examine you for diagnosis and treatment advice. Take adequate fluids,cough syrup
