Not generally: The pain usually occurs as a result of a pressure differential between your nose and the sinus cavity, suggesting there may be partial blockage of the sinus drainage.  Use of a netti pot, other sinus irrigation or a decongestant might be helpful.  If this does not work, see your local ENT doctor.

Hard to tell: If the problem continues for more than 10 days and the nasal discharge gets more discolored, then the chance of a bacterial sinus infection increases.  Otherwise either allergic rhinitis or a viral sinusitis can present the same symptoms you have described.

Chronic rhinosinusit: You want to see an allergist if you have access to one, or an ENT specialist for evaluation and management.  Meanwhile, nasal saline irrigation every day,at least once, OTC antihistamines as cetirizine or loratadine, unless contraindicated, daily non stop, control your environment: e.g. avoid smoking/smokers, pets, dust as much as you Can, avoid feather pillows, items that collect dust in bedroom,

Symptoms: Am not sure what the actual question is. Congestion – saline nose drops or netti pot. For anti-inflammatory effect &amp; mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.  Hydrate- lots of water/clear broth/ add honey &amp; a small amt. of lemon juice to Chamomile tea. Fever/ pain – acetaminophen / NSAID’s  Rest!!

Sinus pain: Take ibuprofen. Get oxymetazoline nasal spray. Mucinex and maybe Zyrtec. See ENT for evaluation.

Doctor can examine: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to look for strep). Throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (ibuprofen) may lessen pain.
