It is also important to pay attention to the volume, consistancy, timing and associated symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath.In general, darker is assocaited with more inflamatory responce that usually lightens up as the condition improves, with the improvement of the other symptoms noted above.In conclusion yes.

No: After someone stops smoking there will be a period of weeks of increase sputum production due to recovery of the function of your airways.  After six to eight weeks you should no longer have a productive cough/smokers cough.  Black sputum can be from certain bacterial/fungal infections ad you should let our healthcare provider know.

First of all: Congratulations on quitting! the cough could certainly last a few weeks while your lungs start to clear. If the cough persists for longer and is accompanied by any other symptoms you should see your doctor.  Stay healthy!

See doctor: The dextrocardia has nothing to do with it.  I suspect that your problem is likely from anxiety  but it won't hurt to get a doctor to check you out.

Yes, it could be: Smoking any substance irritates the airways and lungs and can lead to coughing, mucous, etc.  So yes, your cough could be caused by your smoking. Of course, mj can cause other side effects as well.

Seasonal flu: Seasonal flu is very common viral infection. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water and get a good rest. NSAIDs (e.g. Aleve) are also recommended every 6 hours. If concerned, see your PCP for reevaluation.  Congratulations on quitting smoking!

i quit smoking 65 days ago. i feel a constant mild headache and have been coughing up phlegm since taking a flu shot about 10 days ago. no other symptoms. is all this normal after quitting smoking?

Quite possibly.: As your respiratory defenses improve, especially the cilia in the airways, it is common for new ex-smokers to cough more. The headache...not so much. Have you had the headache for most of the 65 days, or is it a recent symptom? If the headache is truly constant—that is, with NO periods of time headache free—this should be evaluated. Kudos on taking a giant step to better health and longer life!

Probably not.: I think it is just coincidence.  If anything, your breathing should improve when you stop smoking.

Cleaning out: Congratulations by the way!  cigarette smoking paralyzes cilia in the lungs which serve to mobilize secretions and foreign objects up and out of the lung.  Now that you have stopped the cilia are beginning to wrk again.  They are essentially cleaning out the garbage in your lungs.  This is the brown phlegm.
