Tolerance develops: Tolerance takes away much of the wakefulness produced by stimulants like adderall-- i.e. Amphetamine. Other meds used are Provigil or nuvigil; they are used with stimulants, or alone. They have some tolerance as well, that takes away a portion, not all, of their effect. Finally, xyrem, for, narcolepsy; improves deep sleep, reducing daytime sleepiness- in case you were misdiagnosed.

Insomnia: Yes.  Oftentimes insomnia can cause or be effect of hypersomnia conditions.  Caution because idiopathic insomnia is very rare and may be the effect of another underlying sleep disorder specifically if hypersomnia is present.  If concerned please contact your pcp or sleep specialist because formal testing can be very helpful to weed this out and is generally not done in people with only insomnia.

if narcolepsy and similar condition ruled out, you can be DX idiopathic hypersomnia, respond good to treatment , Ritalin (methylphenidate) better than provigil

Neuropathy: What is felt to be the cause of your peripheral neuropathy? Causes can be diabetes, vitamin B12 deficiency, alcohol abuse,etc. A neurologist is best qualified to evaluate you and order appropriate tests.
