No: Dhea is metabolized to cortisone, estrogen and testosterone -- and you can't control which one is goes to. Also, there is no medical indication to take it in the first place, and most of the dhea supplements have little dhea in them.  Don't get your medical advice from tv or the internet!

50 yr old f, total testosterone is 51, t free 12.6, dhea normal. doctor is concerned about ovarian tumor.  are age and levels indicative of oc?

Testosterone: Testosterone levels usually start dropping around the time of menopause.  The DHEA was ordered to help exclude adrenal growths.  Your PCOs can cause a mild elevation in both total and free testoterone.

i have high dheas and acanthosis nigricans and body hair . no ovarian cyst. am i able too get pregnant?

: I assume you're not diabetic &amp; your thyroid status is normal.  Have you consulted a dietician or nutritionist to determine your ideal weight&amp; daily calorie intake? I wouldn't think that medrol dospak would cause that amount of weight loss on its own as I've prescribed it often and never observed significant weight loss from it.  I can't place any significance on your weight loss from taking it

DHEA: For women in there 30's DHEA levels should be 45 to 270 mcg/dl

Be Careful: Not sure what you mean by low adrenal function, but dhea is a mild testosterone like steroid which could cause virilization if you're female and might even lead to some gynecomastia if you're male because of ultimate estrogen conversion as part of normal metabolic pathway. If you have adrenal insufficiency, an endocrinologist should care for you; treatment is not dhea. Dhea is not w/o side effects.

Hormone Supplements: Yes. It can lower your testosterone farther. One should never be on any kind of hormone booster or supplements without the specific oversight of a physician. Anything that mimics testosterone can tell your testes that they do not need to make much testosterone.

DHEA: Concentrations of dhea are measured, along with other hormones such as fsh, lh, prolactin, estrogen, and testosterone, to help diagnose polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos) and to help rule out other causes of infertility, amenorrhea, hirsutism, and forms of adrenal dysfunction.  Have no idea without further data and exam as to what your levels mean.

TMJ: Headache and migraine are consistent with a TMJ disorder.  Many pts go undiagnosed and the many times will present taking the same meds.  Since you have most likely ruled out a brain tumor with the MRI and all other test are normal, i would suggest seeing a dentist specially trained who treats TMJ disorders and craniofacial pain.  Most of the pts present with ANS disorders and adrenal issues.

i took a womens hormone test. i have super low dheas and fsh levels. what could this signify? everything else in normal ranges?

: You don't mention the actual levels. Very low DHEAS can occur with adrenal gland deficiency. Low FSH could mean you're not producing eggs. I recommend consulting a gynecological endocrinologist or a regular endocrinologist for evaluation and advice. Appropriate testing,if needed,will be ordered.
