Bladder Envisioned: Cystoscopy, or a look in the bladder using a scope, can reveal the source of bleeding in the urine, pain in the bladder, weakness to the urine stream and other concerns.  Looking in with a flexible scope creates less pain; however, if a rigid scope is needed, most men are best evaluated under some anesthesia.  Expect burning for 1-2 days after the procedure and possibly some urgency to pe.

Procedures that...: Visualize the urinary tract. A cystoscopy is used to inspect the bladder and urethra. This is usually performed in the office, with some local numbing gel in the urethra. There is discomfort when the scope passes across the urinary sphincter and with bladder filling. A ureteroscopy is performed in the or  with general or spinal anesthesia to inspect the ureter for tumor or stones.

It depends.: If you are just doing a cystoscopy, in most cases this can be done while you are awake.  If the surgeon is doing another procedure at the same time through the cystoscope, then you may need additional anesthesia.  Check  with your surgeon.

Usually uncomfortabl: Performing a cystoscopy is an office procedure done with local anesthesia only. It is usually a little uncomfortable but not very painful. Having cancer does not make the procedure any more or less painful.

: In US your will likely not remember anything as most are given short acting anesthetic and you will not feel anything  Then they keep your until ready to go based on how you are feeling. Usually recommend someone drive you home. But I would ask the blokes down there.  PS Spent a year in Melbourne in '82-3 researching salt in sheep at the "Florey"&amp; Working at QE Hosp.

That depends: Depending on the person doing the procedure and your anatomy as well as any possible numbing meds used for the procedure etc. Some patients do not get pain and burning, some get it and it may last a few days.  Anything over 2-3 days is reason to call the Dr. and tell them your issues.
