hi, i'm doing a project on kidney stones. the question is, when you get kidney stones, how does it affect your digestive system?

They don't. : Being kidney stones stay within the urinary system (kidneys, ureters and bladder) they should have no direct effect on the digestive system. Indirectly, though, if you have stone that's stuck and causing severe pain, you could get something called "reactive ileus" wherein the GI tract contractions slow down precipitously.

i weigh 90kg  & have been on tamsulosin for 3 wks to help kidney stone pass. no longer need to take it - how long before it is fully out of my system?

Tamsulosin: generally medication is cleared from the system and for half-lives.  with a half-life of 15 hours that means tamsulosin should be cleared from your system within three days

i have kidney stones. due to this my digestive system remains disturbed. i am suffering from regular constipation. what should i take to get rid of?

Please see your Dr.: First, see your doctor and discuss this problem with her/him.

High fiber diet (beans/lentils, whole grains, vegetables and fruit with the skin where appropriate).

Plenty of water - up to 2 liters a day.

Consider a stool softener.

i see myself pale i have kidney stones can this be affecting my complexion?

Maybe: Your other question indicated light-headedness, and if you are pale as well, i'm hoping that you are not having some serious bleeding from the stone or somewhere else, or have become anemic. Pain itself can decrease cardiac output by a vagal mechanism and make you pale and light-headed. Today we have lots for kidney stones and i hope it works for you.

i have a 5mm kidney stone. i'd like to know when, during elimination, will it be the most painful? ureteter, bladder or urethra? i'm a male.

Ureter: More than likely the worse pain is when the stone is passing down the ureter and into bladder.   You may get some pain or discomfort urinating the stone out.

have had 20 kidney stones in 2 years. i had one analyzed- the report said "the specimen composed primarily of fatty proteinaceous material not typically associated with calculus composition. no crystalline material id'd." what might this mean?

Not a stone: That specimen was not a stone but other tissue. I assume you've been evaluated by a urologist but a nephrologist would conduct a workup to look for disorders of metabolism including hyperparathyroidism as a history of 20 kidney stones suggests a metabolic abnormality. In the meantime strain all urine in case you pass another stone that can be analyzed. Drink more water.

Kidney injury: Fortunately, a kidney needs to be completely obstructed for a prolonged time (ie. 1 month) before any permanent damage occurs. However, frequent stone passage may increase risks of infection and scar tissue formation within the ureter.

can a kidney stone be 7 cm?

Check with doctor: I have never seen a 7 cm kidney stone before, but I have seen a 7 millimeter stone accidentally reported as 7 cm. Having said that, i guess anything is theoretically possible. I have seen stones in the renal pelvis on the order of centimeters but this has been as a result of chronic infection and other forms of severe chronic renal pathology.

Yes: And too big to pass on its own.
