Possibly...Yes: The irritation to the oral cavity and possible extension of thrush/candidiasis to the back of the throat could be enough to cause coughing.  Thrush is easily treated, so you should see someone to have the problem treated and see if it makes the coughing resolve.  That being said, coughing can be caused by a very wide range of issues: infection, medication, allergies, and much more. Get it checked.

Late, usually: Usually a sign of late infection, i.e. overt AIDS, usually several years after catching HIV. It can occur in early HIV, but usually does not. In either recent or longstanding HPV, thrush is never the only symptom. Also, most coated tongue and other white patches in the mouth are not thrush. See a doctor if you have symptoms you are concerned about.

Many factors: Oral thrush is a yeast/fungal infection of the lining of the mouth tongue and cheeks.


Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils (lymph nodes in the back of the throat).  the inflammation can be caused by viruses, bacteria, and more rarely fungus.

Too early: Even if you contracted HIV , you do not become ill this early.  Have you been on an antibiotic recently?  Inhaled steroid and diabetes are also associated with oral thrush.

Thrush: Not HIV: Thrush can happen in a variety of settings. If you are not HIV positive then i think you may be on the right track.  Remember thrush is also a late stage HIV symptom...Not a newly infected with HIV symptom.

: "Oral thrush" is a term used to describe a fungal (yeast) infection in the oral cavity (mouth/throat).  If the conditions are present for growth of what are ubiquitously available fungal organisms, an infection can occur, which has little or nothing to do with oral breathing or "dry mouth".

RX NEEDED: Please have it seen and treated with an anti-fungal medication if that is the correct diagnosis.
This is more common in babies and immuno compromised adults.
Inhaled corticosteroids for asthma, used long term may also predispose to oral thrush

Candida colonisation: He has a fungal ( candida a.) colonization of the genital area and you have probably low immune system, or taking/inhaling steroids.
Visit your doctor for an evaluation (both).
