Yes BUT...: 1. It is for topical use only; it cannot be used to treat blood infections. It is too toxic for consumption.
2. It can only treat small, superficial infections; in most infections,  other interventions are needed such as abscess drainage and debridement of infected tissue.
3. It is only effective if the staph isn't already resistant to the antibiotic.

whats the difference between bactroban ointment and cream? is one less effective? can you not use one in your nose? my pharmacist said he wanted to talk to me about the difference but wasn't there when i got them. using it to treat face/nose staph.

Ointment stays aroun: a bit longer than cream.  Otherwise there is n't much difference.  Some people prefer 1 or the other.  it is like a moisturizer - some like lotion, some like cream, some prefer spray.

When healed: Usually when the redness and oozing is gone, then you are no longer contagious.

Multiple ways.: Suggest that all bathe long term with an antibacterial soap like dial or lever 2000. Bactroban (mupirocin) can be used in the nostrils 1-2 times per day for about 10 days. No testing is needed.

Staph: Apply Bactroban (mupirocin) Ointment to your nostrils three time daily. Take warm soapy baths to which you have added 3-4 tablespoons of bleach to.Bathe at least twice a day.

Depends: Depends on where the staph is.  If it is a superficial infection, it may; however, staph is notorious for its propensity to cause abscess, in which case the Mupirocin will only have limited effect; surgery is treatment for a staph abscess.

Ok if needed: Bactroban (mupirocin) kills MRSA and is very good if you have issues of breathing or using this to kill mrsa. Do not use if u do not need this. For prevention of infection use just Normal Saline as a nebs or few drops to nostril to open up congested sinus.

4 to 5 times a day: Clean finger, apply 4 to 5 times a day. No qtips. Do it for at least a week or 4 days past complete lack of symptoms.
