is bactroban (mupirocin) effective at treating staph?

Yes BUT...: 1. It is for topical use only; it cannot be used to treat blood infections. It is too toxic for consumption. 2. It can only treat small, superficial infections; in most infections, other interventions are needed such as abscess drainage and debridement of infected tissue. 3. It is only effective if the staph isn't already resistant to the antibiotic.
