i was prescribed amlodipine 10mg, lisinopril 80mg, metoprolol 100mg and maxzide (hydrocholorthiazide and triamterene) 37.5/25mg to take every morning together for my htn. is this safe?

OK: these Medications are often prescribed together as a group. You should monitor your blood pressure at home to see that it is neither too high or too low. Do not combine: Never combine lisinopril and losartan. They have similar mechanism of action and also, taken together, have more frequent side effects. Only if you have heavy proteinuria a nephrologist might give those both together. Otherwise, never combine.

i have been prescribed lisinopril-hctz 20/12.5 tab take 2 tablets daily, metoprolol succinate er 100 mgs twice a day and my doctor just added amlodipine besylate 10 mg tab 1tablet a day. is this safe?

: It depends what your race and blood pressure before Amlodipine was added. Certain race is more sensitive than others and 10 mg of amlodipine can lower systolic pressure more than 20 mmHg in some people. In general, if your systolic pressure was still above 160 with the max doses of Lisinopril/Hctz and Metoprolol succinate, you can safely take the added amlodipine dose of 10 mg. Take care!

: Not likely, would suggest skipping next morning doses and starting using a pillbox or software/apps that will prevent such events from happening again. If ever in doubt, better not to double the dose other than missing one.

Not dangerous: The combination will potently lower BP  -  as long as your BP isn't too low, it's a good combination for lowering BP because the meds work by complementary mechanisms.

Yes: And they're prescribed together all the time. That is a particularly good combination since they act by different mechanisms and the first one counteracts the side effects of the second.

Choice of drugs: The answer to your question depends on how well controlled your blood pressure is on the lisinopril/hctz as opposed to it on amolodipine. The lower your blood pressure, without symptoms of hypotension, the less risk you have for strokes, heart attacks and renal failure in the future. Ask the physician (p) who wrote your prescriptions for advice, as your p knows your history better. Good luck.
