i had a ct scan about a month ago that showed a 3.5cm cyst on my spleen. today, i went for an ultrasound to see if the cyst had changed sizes, but i was told that the ultrasound showed no cyst. can splenic cysts disappear this quickly?

Yes; but diff modali: The CT scan &amp; ultrasound (US) measure different things. CT uses X-rays which address nuclear density (minerals vs. carbon) whereas US uses sound waves to determine solid vs. liquid. CT uses tomography (math) whereas US uses hand-scanning. So the US may have missed the cyst, or the cyst cd b solid in which case it wdn't have been seen. Depending on cause, splenic cysts do regress. What's the cause?

Cyst: Splenic cysts, although not particularly common, are the most common focal lesion of the spleen. They may be present since birth or  may be secondary to other causes. They are usually  asymptotic and incidentally discovered at imaging. Small  and asymptomatic cysts do not require treatment. Symptomatic cysts are managed surgically.

i have a cyst on my spleen 6.8cm. my dr wants to remove my spleen. the cyst has a lot of calcification   is this a reason to remove the spleen?

Seems excessive: But may be justified based upon data not in your story. The problem is you have a picture of calcifications and a cyst.  You do not yet have a diagnosis.  There are other less invasive ways to get a diagnosis which might be good alternatives.

i have a 10 cm cyst on my spleen. besides extra strength tylenol, (acetaminophen) what can help with the sharp pains below my left rib cage?

That's large: Depends on the severity of pain. Since its causing pain itinary be treated surgically. Meanwhile you can try tramadol, Nucynta (tapentadol) or oxycodone temporarily.You must see a surgeon, they may help you by surgical means.

i'm 38 & during a ct scan for a gyno issue, it showed a cyst on my spleen w/ peripheral calcification. they insisted it's probably from trauma & to ignore but i've never had any accidents or trauma to the area ever. what else could cause this?

: Many medical conditions like parasitic infection- TB, histoplasmosis etc can also cause it besides trauma- if no trauma than the other causes can be investigated

Ultrasound: Nancy,

Ultrasound is excellent at viewing the spleen. CT also offers a good view, but carries the downside of radiation exposure. Due to the safety, doctors will often start with ultrasound, then reserve CT scan for those patients where they see an area of concern. Hope this helps!

Probably nothing: Congenital cysts are not uncommon, and occur in the liver, spleen, pancreas, and kidneys. If you have an isolated cyst which is not symptomatic, then you have little to worry about. Your doctor will help with any follow up imaging, but that should be minimal. Good luck.

Various causes: Splenic cysts have a number of causes, including congenital or familial (present @ birth or running in the family).  They can also result from trauma and certain immune conditions like sarcoidosis.  I notice that you live in Sri Lanka.  Infections, particularly parasites, are a common cause of splenic cysts in southern Asia.  Consult your doctor about definitive diagnosis and treatment.
