i'm always tired i got told i could be low on iron but i'm not getting a bloodtest cause of my phobia of veins any suggestions please?

Cure the phobia: If you are in fact iron deficient, not just your health but you schoolwork / job / life are in grave danger. You describe a terror of needles that you yourself recognize to be irrational. This would be a fantastic time to face those fears boldly like you will have to as a grown-up. Get with a good therapist with the focus of treating the phobia, and watch other aspects of your life improve also.

had iv iron + 2x blood trans 2 weeks ago. the vein was sore &hard after & is still very hard (about an inch of it). cant find the answer on google!

Phlebitis.: Inflammation of the vein.  Moist heat and compresses.   As long as this is continuing to resolve I think you are OK, but if not clearing or getting worse I would check with doc to make sure nothing else is going on.

i have some blue-ish blotches on my legs. not bruises. have had them before i can remember. blue veins also show. i have iron deficiency. causes?

Many possible causes: Bluish blotches are difficult to diagnose without examination. They could represent blue nevi (moles) if they have the description of moles. However, blue blotches in the legs are often related to varicose veins and are due to long periods of standing. They can be painful too. There are other causes as well. Iron deficiency is unlikely to be related.You need to see a doctor for examination.

i accidently burned the front side of my head with straightening iron it hurts really bad did this cause any damage to blood vessels or anything?

Unlikely : The burn you have, even though I'm sure it's quite painful, is likely too superficial to come in contact with any blood vessels on your forehead. You can consider taking Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for your pain. Also, applying a cool (not icy cold) compress to the area may be helpful. Best wishes.

i burned the side of my head with my straightening iron it was not my forehead it was like on my scalp above my temple did i hurt blood vessels?

Unlikely, I would : suggest you apply some aquaphor or vaniply to area, and use cool compresses or ice water to stop burning sensation. Then see derm if any blisters appear. and do not pick scab. Vessles are much deeper than superficial burns.

What?: How do you know you have 1) iron deficiency or 2) anemia without being tested? Testing is simple. If there are symptoms of fatigue that may not (and likely is not) from anemia but rather other causes. Broken blood vessels are not related to anemia.

what happens at a pre op visit for varicose vein removal?

Exam and ultrasound: A first visit for varicose veins includes a history of how the veins bother you then an exam of the size and location of the veins. Compression stockings will be prescribed and an ultrasound of the veins in the legs will often be ordered or performed that day.

is there anything that can be done for severe rls? will vein removal help?

Restless leg: Vein removal would not help restless ledge syndrome. There are medicines like SR gabapentin which are indicated to treat RLS. Be sure you check iron stores as well, and replace if needed. Other treatment options do exist, so,speak to a pain doc regarding medication and non med options . Toodmluck

i have hereditary hemochromatosis. the nurse draws my iron labs, right after she removes a pint of blood. shouldnt they be drawn before blood removal?  wouldnt my labs be lower after a pint is removed? im worried im not getting accurate labs?

Great question!: Therapeutic Phlebotomy.   I reviewed the following:  http://www.irondisorders.org/Websites/idi/files/Content/854256/Physician%20Chart%20phlebotomy%20detail2011.pdf * It indicated that patients should normally have a pretreatment hemoglobin of 12.5 g/dl. I have only once had a patient with this disorder- so I would ask your doctor the next time you see him/her.

can the removal of great saphenous vein solve the varicose problem?

Not necessarily.: Malfunctioning of the valves of the greater saphenous vein could lead to varicose veins.  However varicose veins could also occur from malfunctioning valves of other veins such as the small saphenous vein, various accessory veins and even unusual veins such as a duplicated saphenous vein.  Closing the gsv will seal the valves but you may still require removal of varicose veins by micro incisions.
