Ovulation summary: Ovulation starts by a signal from the brain to induce an egg to become mature.  This is called FSH (follicle stimulating hormone). The egg starts to activate and cells around the egg produce estrogen.  When there is enough estrogen the brain is signalled to send a burst of lh to trigger the ovulation.  You can test this in an ovulation predictor kit.  The mature egg will be released in 12-24 hours.
