The egg is released: At ovulation the mature follicle in the ovary releases its egg. Ovulation is triggered by a surge of hormones from the pituitary gland, luteinizing hormone (lh).

An egg is released: There is a chemical released from the brain LH which triggers the release of a mature egg from the ovary about 24 hours later. Over the counter ovulation predictor kit measure the LH which predicts the window of fertility. The area of release on the ovary then begins to may Progesterone in order to thicken the lining of the uterus.

Day 14: On average with a 28 days cycle, ovulation occurs on day # 14 from the first day of your cycle. In a female with shorter or longer periods than 28 days, ovulation can occur earlier or later. A good way to find out is to use an ovulation kit sold in the health stores. During ovulation your body temperature is 1-2 degrees higher. This is one way of knowing if ovulation is happening.

Timing or kits: If you have regular menstrual cycles, ovulation occurs 14 days before your menstrual cycle starts. For people with 28 days cycles, the most common, ovulation is around day 14. If you have a shorter cycle (length between first day of bleeding to the first day of the next cycle).
You can also use ovulation predictor kits (also called LH kits) to tell you exactly when you ovulate.

In between the start: Ovulation happens around the middle of one's cycle, about halfway between the first day of the previous cycle and the first day of the next cycle. More accurately, it is about 14 days before the first day of the next, upcoming cycle. (it is not during a period.).

Ovulation: Ovulation is the cornerstone and reason for menstrual cycles. Ovulation is the process of preparing an egg by the ovary for impregnation and pregnancy. It is also the event of the egg being pushed out of the ovary to meet sperm to cause pregnancy.
Ovulation usually happens just shy of halfway through the menstrual cycle.
