: Zinc is an important nutrient to your immune system and your metabolism. Our bodies usually get enough zinc, however, from our food that it is not necessarily recommended to take a zinc supplement regularly. In fact, zinc can cause side effects including diarrhea, headache, and vomiting, and can result in copper deficiency or interact with medicines, including antibiotics. I don’t recommend it.

Is her zinc low?: Your are correct, zinc supplementation can be beneficial for hair or skin problems--however, that is only applicable when the zinc level in the body is inadequate. Giving more zinc than necessary to a child that is not deficient is not going to help however. Please have your child examined by a board-certified pediatrician or dermatologist. A blood test for zinc may prove useful, which she can do.

Best to eat healthy, exercise regularly and choose your parents carefully. And consider checking in w/your Family Doc or Pediatrician if you're the shortest in your class by far, just in case you're growth hormone deficient.

For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
