: If ovulation occurred this menstrual cycle, and a remaining "dominant follicle" is seen on ultrasound, a prior follicle can rupture ( as it may have been the "true" dominant follicle) , releasing follicular fluid detected as "free fluid" in the lowest portion of the peritoneal cavity (i.e., cul-de-sac).

Accepted Answer

Normal sized: ovaries with a pending ovulatory cyst.  Timed intercourse may allow conception as you wish.

Dominant Follicle: Yes. Dominant follicle contains an egg and once the follicle reaches 2 cm typically ovulation happens where the follicle releases the egg.

Ovulation: typically during the first half of the menstrual cycle several eggs start maturing, surround themselves with fluid, become bigger and bigger, and are then called follicles. eventually, one of the follicles takes the lead and is called the dominant follicle. this is the follicle that will release the egg that can then be fertilized. this typically happens when the follicle is greater than 20 mm.

Normal: That is a normal finding. It just means you have a 1.6 centimeter follicle...a cyst-like structure that forms when an ovary is about to release an egg (ovulate).

Yes: If you do not have an LH surge you won't ovulate. Something called a luteinized unruptured follicle has also been described.

Dominant follicle.: Ovulation usually occur from the dominant follicle which can be in either ovary. The egg is usually released when the follicle is between 18mm to 22mm.
The context for which your follicle size is measured is not clear, however, assisted reproduction such as intrauterine insemination is performed once follicle is 18mm or more. Good luck.

Ovulation: The best way to test ovulation is a Progesterone blood test done on day 21 of the cycle. The second best way is to use a home ovulation kit. Ultrasound monitoring can be a useful piece of additional information but not predictive.

Doubtful: At the time of ovulation the dominant follicle will be at least 18 mm in diameter and the ET will be 8 mm or more.  You probably have not ovulated yet based on the information you provide.  The follicle can enlarge at a rate of 1 to 3 mm per day - so you could ovulate in another 3 to 7 days. good luck.
