The : The cleaning that you had is a superficial removal of calculus and stains. I would find it highly unlikely that the cleaning necessitated the need for two root canals.

Was the whitening procedure in office with a laser/bright light or the take home tray type? Also, are the two teeth in question in the front of your mouth or in the back, and do they have previous large restorations?

There are so many variables here, it is hard to answer your question definitively without knowing all the particulars. The bleaching gel and hot light have been known to cause sensitivity in whitened teeth, which is usually transient. What does your treating dentist feel is the cause of the nerves dying and the need for the two root canals?

Go see your dentist: Not sure if you mean that you have had root canal done and now that the temporary is loose or you have a big cavity and it is so deep that the root canal space become exposed (which is quite painful).  In either case, cover it up with a temporary filling that you can get from a drug store and go to your dentist right the way.  Any contamination trapped underneath the temporary needs to be cleaned.

No pain: The dentist will anesthetize the tooth.  Then place a dental dam isolating the tooth he is working on. He will then begin instrumenting and cleaning out the canal or canals. Several radiographs (x-rays) may be taken.  Then the canal will be filled and either a temporary filling or the final filling will be placed.

See a dentist: You should call your dentist to have him/her evaluate the tooth and then give you your options about any treatment needed for the tooth.

why do i need a root canal if having a crown replaced?

Pulp issue: By the time a crown is needed, a tooth has sustained a lot of damage...Either from, cavities/fillings, broken/chipped, grinding/clenching, to name a few. Rct is typically done before crowning these types of damaged teeth to prevent an abcess forming after the crown is placed. If a rct has been done already, then crowning is recommended to strengthen the tooth/enamel structure.

Yes: If you are not numb enough you may experience pain.  Usually the local is plenty.

Depends: If your dentist has prescribed any medication for pain, be very careful about combining your drugs.  On the other hand, many people claim that "weed" relaxes them, and minimizes discomfort.

Tension likely: I would wager a bet that most people experience some degree of tension during such procedures, which can lead to headache.

Yes: Unless you have a complication, most patients report little to no ill effects after having a root canal treatment.  You may be sore on that tooth, so try not to eat on it for several weeks after the treatment is done.

Not necessary: Both procedures can easily be performed with local anesthetic.
