GMO: Gmo means genetically modified organism---- i presume. Gmo are very useful for production of insulin, clotting factors for hemophilia, human growth hormone for dwarfism.

Depends: Severe diabetes with it's multi-system effects can make pregnancy less likely or a health risk to the mother.However, a woman with diabetes can become pregnant & if  well managed can have a relatively normal pregnancy.This often takes coordination between the diabetes team/ob & receiving pediatrician. Infants of diabetics are at risk of a variety of medical problems at birth. Many do quite well.

Many problems: Untreated or uncontrolled diabetes can lead to kidney disease/failure, retinopathy and possible blindness, impotence (erectile dysfunction), gastroparesis (severe stomach pain and vomitting due to inadequate emptying), foot ulcers and risk of amputation of toes or legs, neuropathy (pins-and-needles sensation mostly in arms & legs), heart disease and possible heart attack & stroke, infection, etc.

But if well controlled can markedly reduce risk of all of these, and have normal life, no complications, normal life span.

Unhealthy lifestyle: Hi. The typical American diet is part of an unhealthy lifestyle full of fast food, processed food, white bread, saturated fat, &amp; simple sugar. Might I suggest whole grains, legumes, nuts, healthy oils (canola &amp; olive), fruits &amp; veggies, lean meats, nonfat dairy?! And regular exercise. Healthy lifestyle would go a long way toward fixing the epidemic of obesity &amp; type 2 diabetes seen in the world!

Depends on which med: The effects of an overdose depend on which medication and how much. Insulins, glimeperide, glyburide, Glipizide and those containing these medications can lower sugar below usual, most likely for a short periods of time. 

An overdose of others such as metformin, actos/avandia, januvia/tradjenta/onglyza are less likely to cause this problem.

Thiazolidinediones: The tzds (rosiglitazone = avandia, and pioglitazone = actos) are used to lower Insulin resistance in patients with type 2 diabetes. They have also shown to have a higher risk of small bone fractures in post-menopausal women, not men. Also listed in the package inserts of these drugs are 'ovulation' as potential side effects because these drugs can restore more regular ovulation in women with pcos.
