: Elevated insulin levels are not unusual in type 2 diabetes. I assume insulin resistance is part of the explanation. Your A1c seems reasonable. A diabetologist ir endocrinologist could advise you best.

NO: But she is probably Insulin resistant and on the way to diabetes in the future. The exact name you put on it is of no importance, the risk is the same. She needs diet, exercise and weight reduction. By the way, tests for Insulin levels are notoriously inaccurate.

Not fasting: Most common reason for high insulin is a non-fasting state. If one is fasting at time of blood draw, then high insulin is worrisome for insulin resistant state or pre-diabetes. In this case, A1c might be useful to further assess glycemic (sugar) control. Assuming good kidney function, metformin would be useful in treating those w/insulin resistance. Should also check blood pressure &amp; cholesterol 2

Insulin: High endogenous insulin levels may be due to an insulin secreting tumor or spikes in blood sugar, but I don't think that exertion raises the insulin levels unless blood sugar rises. Less sugar: try to eat less sugar and processed foods since they cause high insulin levels. Increasing fiber in your diet will decrease the absorption of sugar into the blood and help regulate insulin levels as well. If overweight, try to lose weight and increase activity to decrease insulin levels.

Need new physician: You may well have a high insulin level if you are in a pre-diabetic state, but I'm not sure why a reasonable  Physician would measure your insulin level if your blood sugar is normal, unless it's to try and show you that you are at risk of diabetes later! : All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, why was insulin level tested? It is not a usual test. Rest of your results are normal. If you do not have any symptoms, do not be concerned.
